I know it is almost the end of the season, but if you can get this out to as many websites / fanzines / supporters groups / individuals as possible that will be great.
>As you will be aware, there is to be a General Election in the UK next
>month.
>
>This gives us the perfect opportunity to make candidates aware of the
>campaign for standing areas.
>
>A few people have commented on how the quiet the campaign appears to have
>been recently. This is due to a few factors.
>We believe that all the arguements have been aired, therefore unless any new
>information comes to light, the media have already covered the issue. We
>also believe that we have won all of the arguements and that arguements
>against the campaign have not been backed up with any evidence to
>substantiate their claims. Furthermore, Chris Smith (Secretary of State),
>The Premier League and The FLA all refuse to speak to us when we challenge
>comments they make.
>
>We had thought about promoting the campaign with a few election stunts, but
>we have the backing from a quite few Labour MP's and felt that we didn't want to
>alienate them when after the election we will undoubtedly need their
>support. There is currently an Early Day Motion (EDM 379) lead by
>Northampton Town director and MP Tony Clarke. This has been supported by
>nearly 60 MP's. This EDM will continue after the General Election and we
>need as many MP's as possible to sign up.
>
>Therefore, when a candidate knocks on your door or canvesses in the street,
>ask them directly if they support the campaign to introduce safe standing
>areas at football stadiums in the UK. If they say that they do not support
>the campaign, let them know that they do not have your support at the
>election. If this is a question that is regularily asked, then it may just
>make a differance in the way the candidates think! If a candidate says that
>they do support the campaign and does get elected, please let us know so we
>can contact them to sign the EDM.
>
>This is a crucial time for the campaign as it is possible that our biggest
>political supporter, Kate Hoey, Minister for Sport, and our biggest
>political opponent, her boss Chris Smith, may not hold these positions after
>the election. We can only wait to see what happens........
