A classic example of the sort of Man Utd fan that is an embarrasment, not only to the club, but to football in general....
His arguments centred around the following :-
1) Even though Liverpool had won more league championships than United, ours were worth more because the Premiership is harder than the old First Division championship !!
2) If Liverpool win the Cup treble this season, it's a mickey mouse treble compared to ours..
3) Even though Liverpool have been Europes top club side on 4 occasions compared to 2 (Dave proved his glory hunting credentials by saying Untied had only won one European Cup) wins of United, ours were better because the Champions League is harder to win than the old European tournament.
Rather than get into this argument all over again, what I will say is that people like that should have more respect for other teams achievements in the history of the game, rather than show such insecurity that they need to devalue everyone else....
Alan Green to his credit stated, as we all accept as undisputed fact, that United have been the team of the 1990's as far as England is concerned. But what is also undisputed fact is, that they still have some way to go before their achievements match those of Liverpool...There is nothing to say they can't do this over time...But I suspect glory hunting Dave's problem is that he can't see life beyond Alex Ferguson, just like he cannot see the history of the game before 1990..
And her's another fact to digest......Neither Man Utd nor Liverpool had ever won every competition they entered....Celtic did this in 1967, the top prize being the famous European Cup win.....So both clubs still have to try and emulate that don't they ??
